Coast & Islands

White sand, warm water, and a coast that is much more varied than it looks.

  • Diani
  • Watamu
  • Lamu
  • Malindi
  • Kilifi
  • Wasini

Diani is the easy answer and a good one. But Watamu is better for reef, Lamu is a different century entirely, and Kilifi suits people who want a creek and a house rather than a resort. We match the town to the trip instead of sending everyone to the same beach.

What people come for

  • Snorkelling and diving in Watamu Marine Park
  • Lamu Old Town, where there are still almost no cars
  • Sunset dhow out of Diani or Shela
  • Kite surfing at Diani between June and September

Ours to sort out

What we handle on a trip like this.

Beach house, resort or boutique hotel
Road transfer or the Nairobi–Mombasa flight
Dhow and boat charters
Dive and snorkel operators
Restaurant tables that actually need booking
A driver on call while you are down there

Roughly how it goes

A shape, not a package.

A starting point we'd happily tear up.

Day 1

Down to the coast

Fly to Mombasa or Ukunda in under an hour, or drive it in seven or eight. We will tell you honestly which is worth it for your group.

Days 2–5

Settle in

Beach, reef, boat, repeat. One day inland to Shimba Hills or Wasini if you want a break from the sand.

Day 6

Lamu, or home

A short hop north to Lamu is the single best add-on on this coast if you have the days for it.

Getting you there
