The quiet version of Kenya is the best one. Small tented camps with six rooms rather than sixty, a house on Lamu with nobody in it but you, dinner set up somewhere with no other tables. It costs less than people assume, and it needs someone who knows which places are genuinely private and which just say so.

A small camp
Laikipia or the Mara conservancies. Few tents, no crowds, and a guide who is yours for the stay.
Day 4
The balloon
Up before dawn, down for breakfast. It is the one expensive thing everybody says was worth it.
Days 5–8
Lamu
Fly across, take a house, and do very little for four days.
