City & Culture

The city most people transit through and should really spend two days in.

  • Nairobi
  • Karen
  • Westlands
  • Kibera
  • Ngong
Nairobi lit up at night, seen from the air

Nairobi is the only capital on earth with a national park inside the city boundary. It also has a restaurant scene worth planning around and a nightlife that does not start until late. Most visitors see the airport and a hotel. That is a waste of a good city.

What people come for

  • Nairobi National Park at dawn, twenty minutes from town
  • The Giraffe Centre and the elephant orphanage, best booked ahead
  • Karen Blixen house and the Ngong hills behind it
  • Eating properly — nyama choma, Ethiopian in Kilimani, the Westlands rooftops

Ours to sort out

What we handle on a trip like this.

Hotel or serviced apartment
Driver on call, which matters here
Restaurant and rooftop bookings
Museum, gallery and sanctuary entries
Guided walks with people who live there
Getting home safely at 2am

Roughly how it goes

A shape, not a package.

A starting point we'd happily tear up.

Morning

The park before the city wakes

Gates open at six. Lions with a skyline behind them is a genuinely strange and good thing to see.

Afternoon

Karen

Giraffe Centre, the Blixen house, lunch somewhere under trees. Slow on purpose.

Evening

Out properly

Dinner in Westlands or Kilimani, then wherever the night goes. Your driver waits.

Getting you there

What we'd put you in.
